Pete Kensicki joined Eastern Kentucky University in 1989. Prior to EKU, Pete was Vice President of the American Institute of Property and Liability Underwriters and the Insurance Institute of America. His responsibilities there included the texts, course guides, and examinations for the Accredited Adviser in Insurance (AAI) and the Associate in Reinsurance (ARe) programs and the curriculum for CPCU 8--Accounting and Finance and CPCU 10--Insurance Issues and Professional Ethics.
Pete is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati, where he earned a B.B.A. in finance. In 1968, he earned a Master of Insurance degree from Georgia State University, and in 1972, he received his Doctorate in Business Administration degree, also from Georgia State. In addition, he holds the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), and the Fellow of Life Management Institute (FLMI) designations.
Within the insurance business, in addition to his work at the Institutes, Pete has been an agent, worked for the Georgia Insurance Commissioner, taught insurance and finance at Ohio University, and was assistant Vice President for the Cincinnati Insurance Company. He is a nationally known expert in agent's errors and omissions and insurance technical law suits.
Pete is a coauthor for Principles of Insurance Production, Multiple-Lines Insurance Production, Agency Operations and Sales Management, Principles of Reinsurance, Reinsurance Practices, How Accounting Works: A Guide for the Perplexed, and Introduction to Accounting. He is a coeditor of The Business Insurance Handbook, published by Dow Jones-Irwin. In addition, he has also authored numerous reports, articles, and paper on insurance topics.
On the personal side, Pete is married, has one daughter, and lives in Richmond, KY. His non-insurance interests include woodworking, cooking, and reading about anything but insurance.

Dr. Bruce A. Hill, CLU

Bruce Hill joined Eastern Kentucky University in 1994. He was attracted to Eastern because of its philosophy and dedication to serving students first, industry relations second, and personal research third. His personal goals and philosophies were to associate himself with a university that emphasized teaching and coordination of the educational program directly with industry. Eastern Kentucky University and the Insurance Studies Program fit that mold.
Bruce completed his doctorate degree in 1996 with a dissertation entitled "An Evaluation of the Investment Performance of Universal Life Insurance: 1984-1993." His PhD is from Florida State University in the area of Risk Management & Insurance. He also has a support area in his PhD studies in the area of Real Estate Valuation. His undergraduate degree in Engineering Science (minors in math and physics) was also obtained at Florida State in 1972.
Bruce first became licensed to sell life/health insurance in 1967 and sold on a part-time basis while completing his undergraduate studies. Upon completion of his undergraduate degree, he entered the life and health insurance business with Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company as a Special Agent in Tallahassee, Florida. In 1978 he affiliated himself with Corporate & Estate Analysts as a salesperson in the Advanced Underwriting Division with special emphasis on Estate Planning and Pension/Profit Sharing Plans for small business.
In the summer of 1978 he was invited to teach two classes per semester in the College of Business at Florida State University on an adjunct basis. Classes taught included Principles of Risk and Insurance, Life/Heath Insurance, Estate Planning, and Business Insurance/Employee Benefits. He continued his teaching and insurance sales until 1989 at which time he entered the PhD program.
He has two sons, Scott and Greg who currently reside in Tallahassee. |

Burke A. Christensen, JD, CLU

Mr. Christensen has thirty years of experience as an attorney and executive officer in the insurance industry. He is the Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel or Concert Health Plan Insurance Company in Oak Brook, Illinois. Previously he served as the vice president of operations and in-house counsel to Quotesmith.com ( now Insure.com) for its 1999 IPO and was responsible for agent market conduct compliance for the company in all 51 U.S. jurisdictions. He has litigated insurance cases and managed outside counsel in court and arbitration. He was formerly general counsel of the Society for Financial Services Professionals and in that capacity he prepared and presented testimony on behalf of the insurance industry before state legislatures, federal agencies and the U.S. Senate. He began his career as an attorney with the Northwestern Mutual Life at its home office in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He has held NASD series 6 and 63 securities licenses and life & health insurance liceneses in all 51 U.S. jurisdictions.
He is the author/editor of three college text books on the law of insurance published by The American College. Including his columns, he has written more than 100 articles on professional ethics, market conduct compliance, producer liability and the regulations of insurance. He has served as the editor of The Insurance Counselor, a series of primers on legal tax issues published b the American Bar Association. Mr. Christensen is the author of the column “Professionals Liability” currently being published in the Journal of the Society of Financial Services Professionals.
Mr. Christensen participated in the creation of the American Business Ethics Award and served as Co-Chair of the Judges Panel in 1994 and 1995. He also participated in the creation of a business ethics program for the Greater Chicago Business Bureau.
Mr. Christensen participated as the senior staff officer for the American Society in the creation served and promulgation of the Insurance Illustration Questionnaire and the Replacement Questionnaire.
He serves on the board of directors for the Greater Better Business Bureau where he serves on the Ethics Committee. He is also a member of the board of directors for the Chicago Chapter of the Society for Financial Services Professionals.
Mr. Christensen has been a guest lecturer in insurance at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and at the John Marshall Law School. He has spoken on insurance topics at insurance industry and bar association meetings throughout the United States.
He is a long distance runner and has finished the Chicago Marathon twice. |
